- The
second Western Horseman Cup will be held in January/February 2006 in conjunction
with the Augusta Futurity.
- A
total of fifteen (15) Open horses and fifteen (15) Non-Professional riders
will participate.
- The
series during the 2004 point year (finals in January/February 2006) is for
foals born in 2000. Horses will be five years old at the time of the finals.
- The
total purse for the Open Division will be $150,000.
- The
total purse for the Non-Pro Division will be $100,000.
- The
entry fee for the open division shall be $2,000. The entry fee for the non-pro
division shall be $1,500. Entry fees shall be due on or about January 3,
2006.
- The
purse distribution of each division shall be as outlined on the page 1.
- Each
division shall consist of a finals only. (i.e., each cutter cuts only once).
- Four
head of fresh cattle per cutter shall be supplied.
- A
five-judge adjusted monitor system shall be utilized.
- All
applicable NCHA rules shall apply, including all Non-Pro horse ownership
rules.
- The
top five (5) point earners from each of the three seasons shall be the finalists.
- Once
a horse (in the Open Division) or a Non-Pro rider (in the Non-Pro Division)
qualifies, they will not be able to obtain a second qualifying spot from
a subsequent season. (i.e. each Open horse or Non-Pro rider can only show
once in their respective division in the finals).
- Non-pro
riders will be placed in the seasonal standings based on the total points
earned on all of the horses they owned and showed in the Non-Pro division
of participating events during that season.
- A
horse may compete in both the Open and Non-Pro divisions, provided that
horse qualified for the finals in both divisions.
- An
Open rider may show one (1) horse in the Open Division finals.
- Owners
of Open finalists may name any rider to show their horse in the finals,
regardless of whether that rider showed that horse during the year or not.
All Open riders must be named at time of entry.
- A
Non-Pro rider may show any horse during the finals, provided they comply
with all NCHA Non-Pro horse ownership rules. The horse shown by a Non-Pro
in the finals does not necessarily have to be the horse the Non-Pro qualified
for the finals on.
- Non-pro
riders will be placed in the seasonal standings based on the total points
earned on all of the horses they owned and showed in the Non-Pro division
of participating events during that season.
- The
draw for working order will be determined first by a draw for the order
of selection of working order position. This draw will determine the order
in which each horse owner comes forward and selects their preferred working
order position (in the order of the initial random draw). For example: In
the draw for the open finals, the horse named Peppy Peanut is drawn from
the hopper. Then the #1 is drawn from a separate hopper. This indicates
that the owner of Peppy Peanut gets to pick first which working order position
they want for their horse (1 - 15 in the working order).
- If
a horse (Open Division) or Non-Pro rider (Non-Pro Division) finishes among
the top five point earners in more than one season, here is how the second
spot in the finals will be determined: The spot in the finals will be earned
by the horse that did not finish among the top five point earners in any
season, but earned the most cumulative points in the three seasons combined
among all remaining horses. For example: Little Peppy Doc (Open horse) finishes
with the most points in the Spring season, and the third most points in
the Summer season. Little Peppy Doc will show only once in the Open Division
Finals. The remaining finals spot is filled by Jumbo Hickory, a horse that
finished 10th in the Spring season, 12th in the summer season and seventh
in the Fall season, but whose points from those three seasons combined were
the most of any Open horse that never finished in the top five in any one
season.
- These
qualifying standards may be amended by the Steering Committee.
